News Appearance stats for 2023 are now on player profiles. We lost 1 game due to the weather and 2 due to player numbers but still managed to play 47 games (same as last year). Here are the top 10 appearances for 2023: Great numbers from Andy and Gary despite picking up injuries towards the end of the year. Jack has also done phenomenally well considering he only started playing with us on March 28th this year. Here's how the All Time Appearance chart is looking at year end: Appearance stats for 2022 are now on player profiles. No COVID impact this year though we did lose a couple of games towards the end of the year due to the weather. The end result was a 47 game season. Andy played in 44 of those games to claim top spot for the second year running - congratulations to him. Gaffer Bill and Steven T shared second place after each playing 41 games, Gary came fourth with 37 games played and fifth place was shared by Stevie J and Jon (36 games played). Here's how the All Time Appearance chart is looking at year end: 26th
December 2021
Appearance stats for 2021 are now on player profiles. It was another COVID-curtailed season, with only 32 games played. Andy played in all of those games, thus matching Gary's 100% attendance record from last year - well done, Andy! Brian took second spot with 29 games played and
Gary came in third this time with 28 games played. Jon, Gaffer
Bill and Steven T split fourth place after each playing 27
games. 13th January 2021 Appearance stats for 2019 are now on the site - check your Profiles to see how you did! It was our busiest season since 2016, with 50 games played. Gary went one better than his second place last year, coming out on top with 43 games played - congratulations to him. The Top Five was completed by Bill R (42), Grant
(40), Gaffer Bill (40) and Jon (38). Appearance stats for 2018 are finally on the site - check your Profiles to see how you did! Not our busiest season ever, with the cancellation of 4 games (3 of those due to snow) meaning we only played 46 games at Saughton in 2018. Craig came out on top (for the first time ever) with 41 games played - congrats, Craig! The hotly contested Top Five was then completed by Gary (40), Gaffer Bill (38), Jon (36) and Bill R (35). Appearance stats for 2017 are now on the site - check your Profiles to see how you did! This has been another busy season, with 49 games of 8s taking place at Saughton in 2017. Jon and Bill Ryan came out on top with 40 games played - congrats, gents! The hotly contested Top Five was then completed by Gaffer Bill (39), Matty (38) and Adam (36). Appearance stats for 2016 are now on the site - check your Profiles to see how you did! This has been another busy season, with 50 games of 8s taking place at Saughton in 2016. After a poor showing last year, Gaffer Bill came out on top with 45 games played - the benefits of unemployment! The Top Five was then completed by Ross (42), Dave Brunger (41), Natu (39) and Craig (38). Appearance stats for 2015 are now on the site - check your Profiles to see how you did! This has (once again) been the busiest season since records began, with 51 games of 8s taking place at Saughton in 2015. In only his first season with the Real, young Darren Wilson came out on top, having played 45 games. The Top Five was then completed by Dave Brunger (44), Jon (43), Matty (42) and Mike & Adam (35). Usual stat stalwart Bill came in a lowly 9th place with 31 games - that'll teach him to mix gigs and sciatica! Appearance stats for 2014 are now on the site - check your Profiles to see how you did! This has been the busiest season since records began, with 50 games of 8s taking place at Saughton in 2014. In what's likely to his last full season for some time - he's off to Australia soon - James Trysburg is top of the shop, having only missed two games this year. The Top Five is then completed by Jay & Ted (43) and Bill & Kev (42). Appearance stats for 2011 are now on the site - check your Profiles to see how you did! This has been the busiest season since records began, with 49 games of 8s taking place at Saughton in 2011. Just one game was cancelled - again, probably a record! Calder is top of the shop like last year, having played in 47 games, with Jay (46), Bill (44), Biggsy (35) and Matty (35) thereafter. This year's Chrissie card from the guys at Saughton (we gave them one, too - plus a slab of Stella from the Ball Fund). The shiny new Real Tuesday logo - the first in the club's history - now appears at the top of this and every other page of the site. The logo was produced for us by a very talented man called Neil McLeod, who Bill knows through the rugby. Neil runs a company called Bell Johnstone Publications - see our Links page for details. Plans are already afoot to get the logo onto T-shirts and strips - watch this space! Bodies in a graveyard - whatever will John find next?! I knew there had to be a reason why we keep doing this, when most of us should know better at our ages! Delighted to receive the following festive update from our old mate Bonus, missing from our Tuesday games since knackering his knee in May during our Powerleague exile. Last time I heard from him, he was waiting to see if the knee would sort itself over time - if it didn't, he was going to have to get an op. Looks like the latter was, indeed, the case: "Finally had the surgery on December 5th. It's a lot more stable now. Hope to start playing from June." Only six months till the return of the Chuckling Assassin - bring it on! Interesting article from the 'Evening News' on 7th November - though has anyone actually seen any rugby getting played at Saughton since the pitch went down? Maybe they're counting some of Scott's tackles as rucking ... This year's Chrissie card from the guys at Saughton (we gave them one, too - plus a box of chocs from the Ball Fund). Got an update on the resurfacing from the attendant at Saughton tonight. The new floodlights are nearly all up and working - might explain why the ball remained visible at all times tonight, except when we punted it over the fence - but the new surface won't now be going down until 1st March 2008. This is, apparently, because it would shrink if it was laid between now and then, due to the cold and damp weather. Guess I can hold off on that Powerleague booking for a wee while yet, then ... This year's Chrissie card from the guys at Saughton (we gave them one, too). Got the customary letter confirming our rebooking of the astro at Saughton at the weekend. Check out the comment highlighted in pink at the bottom right hand corner - obviously we've not yet been playing at the Stadium Of Dark long enough for the Saughton staff to bear our 6 pm Tuesday slot in mind when taking other bookings ... Spotted the above advert in this week's copy of
the 'Big Issue' (no, not while selling it). The jury is
out as to whether that's Chalky on the right hand side - but
he's apparently 'trying to deny all knowledge of that one',
whatever that means! Never mind, Chalky - if it is you,
does the young lad want a game of 5s? Next game is against FC Farcelona at Peffermill on Thursday 8th June, kick off 6.30 pm. We are playing on grass for the first time this year, so please bring appropriate boots. Please aim to be at Peffermill by 6 pm at the latest, and let Bill know ASAP if you require a lift. We will head into town for beers at the Pear Tree afterwards. Here's the team: Attack: John Finnegan, Simon Bench: SBJ, Bill, Adrian, Ryan (rolling subs) Brian Latto will, once again, referee, so feel free to practise your throw ins before the game. Bill will bring along water and the white Real tops. Players need only bring their kit (white shorts if possible) and a fiver to cover pitch, ref and the recently acquired Copa Del Saughton, destined to be our first ever piece of silverware. Directions to Peffermill from (seemingly) anywhere
in the British Isles can be found here,
while the Pear Tree is here.
Tom - not Irish Just found out from Ryan that our new recruit, Tom The Irishman, is, in fact, Tom The Englishman. Might explain why he was wearing an England top on Tuesday, then! Apologies for the confusion. In other news, it seems that not all the blood shed at Saughton of late has been from Graeme's knees. Hmm - Zyco was apparently called to New York on 'business' just after the incident ... you do the maths! Got the following email out of the blue yesterday - man, I love the Internet! "Hi Bill,
“There’s only one Tuesday FC, one Tuesday FC ...” At least, that’s what I thought until I discovered your website. And, to make it worse, at first I thought you were calling yourselves ‘the real Tuesday FC’ (shock, horror). I told the lads about your website last night, and they suggested that, as Club Secretary, I ought to drop you a line, especially as it seems our club profiles are remarkably similar. Tuesday FC has been around since 1991 as a bunch
of students having a kick about on the Forest (large green
space close to the centre of Nottingham, thankfully with
Astroturf pitch tacked onto one end). Do we play competitive football, against other teams? Yes, occasionally. We run a very successful tournament every May, and play the odd 11 a side game. Our average age? The youngest player is 18 (our youth policy), but most are in their late thirties, early forties. I’m the oldest (47 at the time of writing). So, any time you guys are down this way, and fancy reviving the spirit of the Home International, we’d be only too pleased to give you a game.
Regards, Chris Shaw Secretary, Tuesday FC" Congratulations from all at the club to Kenny
Stewart, who marries Jan Robertson on Saturday. That's the 1st
of April - nice one, Kenny! I gather they are honeymooning in
Japan - is that yet another country off your 'To Visit' list,
Ken? Our first 11s game of 2006 will be a rematch against FC Farcelona at Peffermill on Friday 24th February, kick off 7.30 pm. We are playing under lights on the astro pitch, so please bring appropriate boots. Brian Latto will, once again, referee, so let's try and cut out those foul shies he loves so much. We have had a few call-offs from the team that drew with Farcelona in November, with Zyco and Muzz both heading off on holiday the next day and Al at a works do, but will still be able to put out a strong team - details here ASAP. We will once again head into town for beers after the game. 20th December 2005 A momentous evening. Firstly, Frank Ford returned to Tuesday 5s for the first time in maybe 6 years, still sporting the same scabby yellow Celtic training jacket he wore the last time. Great to see him back - he was a bit tentative tonight, but sure he will be back to kicking people over the fence before 2006 is very old. And, secondly, we got our first Christmas card ever, from the guys at Saughton: And, no, before you ask, I didn't have to tear the card up to scan it. No, I didn't ask the guys if they signed it themselves. And no, I didn't ask them who this 'Mr Scott' was - the gradual (and unwitting) eradication of Finbar from the Real annals will only be completed when our booking comes up for renewal ... 16th November 2005 Next game is against FC Farcelona at Peffermill on Friday 18th November, kick off 7.30 pm. We are playing under lights on the astro pitch, so please bring appropriate boots. Please aim to be at Peffermill by 7 pm at the latest, and let Bill know ASAP if you require a lift. We will head into town for beers at the Pear Tree afterwards. Team will be confirmed tomorrow, once Gary has decided if he is fit to play, but, if he is, will look like: Attack: John, Simon Bench: Pauline, Al |
